Selling through ChatGPT and Claude: how to get ready

Customers ask AI assistants before they buy. If your accurate information is not available to the assistant, it answers from somewhere else.

Search no longer happens only in Google's search bar. Many buyers ask an AI assistant questions like “which option suits me?” or “how long is delivery?”.

Where does the assistant's answer come from?

It answers either from its general knowledge or from a source it is connected to. General answers can be outdated or wrong: an old price, or delivery terms that no longer apply.

Three steps to get ready

The goal is not for the assistant to sell for you, but to answer accurately and send the customer to your own purchase or request page.

  • Keep product, price and terms in one up-to-date source.
  • Keep the assistant's access limited and controlled: read-only, public information only.
  • Every answer should link to a purchase or request page on your own site.

Privacy and consent

Sample or quote requests through an assistant should only be recorded with the customer's clear consent, and no more personal data than needed should be collected.

What to measure

The number of questions, the recurring topics and how many customers reached your site from an assistant's answer show what this channel really contributes.
