A sales roadmap in five steps

A sales goal without a plan is just a number. In five steps, turn it into a plan with channels, actions, owners and measures.

1. Make the goal measurable

“More sales” is not a goal. “More qualified requests from search over the next three months” is one you can plan for and measure.

2. Measure where you are

Before any action, record the starting point: visits by source, request rate and the rate at which requests become sales.

3. Prioritise channels

Score every channel on two questions: how much effect could it have, and how much money and time does it take?

  • High effect, low cost channels come first.
  • Expensive channels only after a small test.

4. Give every action an owner and a date

An action without an owner and a date usually does not happen. The plan must say who does what, by when.

5. Report and adjust regularly

A short weekly report showing progress against the goal beats a long monthly one. Adjust the plan from data, not guesses.
